Extremely emotional plots that could offer some excellent character development (considering the characters are very likeable) are shied away from in order to keep the tone of the film light. Sarandon, naturally, is brilliant when given screen time, handles all emotions perfectly, and delivers the best metaphorical speech about relationships that can be applied to every individual, straight or gay. ... What laughs there are, though, are of the unintentional variety, particularly when Lopez reveals her fervent wish to strut her stuff at the global mecca of ballroom dancing. Where Japans rigid codes of behaviour made the heros closet passion deliciously transgressive, theres no reason in the world for Gere to conceal his after-hours activities from wife Susan Sarandon and their two children. ...
