A good effort to portray the relationship between CS Lewis and Joy Davidman. Lewis junkies like me will be able to pick apart the story a little bit...why didn't they bring up this? Why didn't they emphasize that? But a good... Full review

Hopkins and Winger are equally superb in this absorbing story of personal and spiritual transformation--a story previously filmed for British television in 1985, with Joss Ackland and Claire Bloom. Best known for writing The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe , Lewis (Anthony Hopkins) is living comfortably as a respected Oxford don, his academic lifestyle a kind of shell protecting him from the emotional risk of love. ... But the tea-and-crumpets Englishness and old-fashioned (OK, leaden) direction are entirely appropriate. Hopkins -- it's almost redundant to say -- is tremendous, as he tries to understand this small being for whom he can only write abstractly. ... Full Review
