But the film does deliver some surprises, and that's why it's much better, and tauter, than the first.
It wastes no time in any re-caps : just one brief scene flashes back to the previous film, where the dead elder son ( Kay Kay) is shown.

After convincing Sarkar [Amitabh Bachchan], who is against it for various reasons, Shankar undertakes a journey along with Anita to the villages of Maharashtra to mobilize support from the masses.
What impresses even more is the set of character artists who are terrific and just apt be it- Ravi Kale, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Sayaji Shinde and Supriya Pathak.

Frankly speaking, Sarkar was more gripping, but Sarkar Raj has more meat; its only that it hasnt been written quite convincingly.
However, the brilliant direction and superb performances by everybody keeps the viewers engrossed till the very end.

And Verma manages to create a great film....For what it is, the film is extremely well made....When one thinks of Ramgopal Verma combining the two Bachchans in a remake of one of the greatest films of all time, expectations are raised.....This is definitely for admirers of more serious cinema, and I highly recommended..... ... Story wise 'Sarkar' is quite simple as it is about a man who does his best for the 'junta'.
The way Sarkar rebukes him and then warns him in quick succession is a brilliantly executed sequence.
And this is where the beauty in the screenplay lies!

After ' Black ' early this year, the background compilation of ' Sarkar ' too would go down as a terrific theme music compilation.
Those who are fond of background music pieces and want to appreciate the nuances of attaching music to a scene would like this particular portion of the musical score of Sarkar'.
