Six young couples in different situations, face different quandaries. All their problems are apparently caused by love, too much, too little, love for the wrong people, love for people who don't want it, unrequited love, amnesia-afflicted love and what have you. Each of the 6 stories is moderately developed, the most believable being the Hindu-Muslim couple - the Ashutosh-Tehzeeb (John and Vidya) story. Then there is the starlet hungry to make it big, hatching up a publicity stunt which backfires - the Kkamini-Rahul (Priyanka-Salman) deal. The 3rd pair is that of Stephanie-Raju (Shannon and Govinda) pair, she searching for her faithless Indian boyfriend and he the Indian taxi-driver who ferries her around the country. And then there is the Shiven-Gia (Akshaye-Ayesha) yuppie marriage fiasco, with the groom with the cold-feet. The 5th story is of the stable married couple - Vinay-Seema (Anil and Juhi), whose 15 year marriage is threatened when the husband wants more than just boring, suburban life. The 6th couple's story is of Isha-Sohail as a rural couple unable to give vent to their passion. The film runs through these 6 stories almost in parallel, taking us to their respective conclusions.

Sinc Sound, smart editing chops, an ensemble of top stars, a semblance of artistic aspirations reveling in one big wedding party doesnt necessarily make a good film.

There are moments of subdued drama and high cinema all through this lengthy parable on love which redefines the time space and pace of the Romantic Comedy with considerable humour and grace.

In its current shape and form, it might just end up as the biggest disappointment of the year due to its sheer length which is in no way justified, neither by the story nor by the performances.
And if it takes nearly four hours for the couples to resolve their oh-so-familiar problems, rest assured, the movie sinks with the sheer weight of its banality.

Salaam-e-Ishq could have been a much better film had it not got heavy and tiresome in the second half.
Sohail Khan, too, is very funny.
Vidya is natural in her performance while John leaves much to be desired.
