I really liked Ranbir Kapoor's acting. The story was unique, and I enjoyed it very much, but I can see why people don't because it is not your average Bollywood flick. You have to appreciate the artistic value of the film to enjoy it.

This is all taken in the dark. Love the acting of the newcomers but doesnt really stand out like the other Sajay leela bansali films

2007-11-21
i hate the movie ... it has no plot ... and the RK banner's presence is just too over-powering... the "white towel" sequence belonged to sonam ... dont know why ranbir raj is dancind around semi-naked in a wet white towel ... if there is a rating of negative stars ... i would like to give that to this movie

It is quite a depressing tale. Almost all the characters are deprived of love.

Saawariya is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's worst film to date. Not that the movie does not have any moments of glory. Expectations are high in SLB's movie but this does not meet the expectations for sure. The storyline lets it down. Its a two line story.Boy meets girl and falls in love, spends four nights of togetherness as good friends. The girl loves and waits for the return of her lover Salman, the boy is left alone at the end. Ranbir Raj, a happy go lucky vagabond musician reaches a dingy blue chilly town infested with prostitutes to croon in...more

Saawariya is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's short story White Nights. Obviously, Bhansali is not the first filmmaker to stumble across Dostoyevsky's short story. The story, set in a an imaginary land, is about Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) who falls in love with Sakina (Sonam Kapoor). But Sakina is awaiting her lover to return. Apart from this what comprises the film is grand sets by Omung Kumar, beautiful cinematography by Ravi K Chandran and cameos by Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee (as Gulab). The film lacks soul and also screenplay. There are songs almost every seven minutes. This one is...more

No, Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor â megahyped bachchas sharing a surname but entirely different Bollywood legacies â arenât, as the hype might have had you believe, the instant quick-mix superstars ready to take Bollywood into the next generation. Heâs occasionally likeable, sheâs undeniably attractive. And thatâs that. The problem lies with their puppeteer, the all-conquering badshah of bluster. Sanjay Leela Bhansali takes Fyodor Dostoevskyâs White Nights â a stark, lovely story about romance born and rekindled over four nights â and, picking out its barest heart, proceeds to smother it in mixed-up layers of trite melodrama. And money. The story is...more

SAAWARIYA is a film which didn't have a story to begin with, ends abruptly in such a way as if the last few pages of the script went missing and Bhansali was threatened by the Sony guys to wrap up the film. If one looks closely, somehow one of the threads of JAB WE MET forms the entire plot of SAAWARIYA. The only difference here being that SAAWARIYA ends where JAB WE MET met it's interval point. Guy hands over the girl to the man she loves and the film ends. Period. Arrey, ye tha kya? Aur ye dikhaya kyon? Sanjay...more

After classics like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Black, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is back with a love story titled Saawariya, starring two star kids, Rishi Kapoor - Neetu Singh’s son Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor. The curiousity and hype surrounding Saawariya is high. A prostitute Gulabji (Rani Mukherjee) introduces the story to us as some fairy tale that once occurred some where in a far away land that looks mystical. Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) is a charming young man who has noone and no place to live. He is a lead singer of RK club and by...more

Bole To: Hated Om Shanti Om? Then you'll hate this too! STORY: Set in la-la land, SAAWARIYA tells the story of Ranvir Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) and Sakina (Sonam Kapoor) who meet on a rainy night. While Sakina is singing Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to a certain Imaan (Salman Khan), Raj falls for Sakina but maintains his Khamoshi till the end. In the meanwhile the garishly dressed stereotypical-Bollywood-prostitute-with-a-golden-heart Gulab (Rani Mukherji) makes a appearance mouthing lines which seem straight out of Mills & Boons' Urdu version. The film has no story to tell, and behaves as hopeless platform for the emerging talents like Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.Probably the only person who will be happy after Saawariya will be Ram Gopal Varma, who will get some stiff competition from the underperformed Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Saawariya lacks content. The plot is deprived of a storyline which stands out as a sore thumb in the visualistic image of the film. The film represents a musical drama than a motion picture. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has lost out on making a Bollywood adaptation of Dostoyevskyâs âWhite Nightsâ, which stood out...more

well what can be said about one of the greatest creations of sanjay leela bhansali as always from hum dil de chuke sanam, devdas to black and now saawariya, he knows how leave the audience spell bound. i can just say a mesmerizing presentation by an awesome director and gr8 cast. One must watch this “ode to beauty” film in order to see this best directed film by SLB ever. In my website http://cinelabs.blogspot.com I have given it 4 stars out of 5. Alas, SAAWARIYA is all style, no substance. When a director of the calibre of SLB attempts a love story, you expect to experience the various emotions that you generally associate with romance. With splendid backers like Hollywood giant Columbia/Sony and a dream cast, Bhansali falters big time in SAAWARIYA. It doesnât give you the feeling that youâre watching an SLB film or a film of epic proportions. Dostoevskyâs short story WHITE NIGHTS may sound interesting on paper, but SLBâs adaptation suffers because thereâs not much meat in the plot. To cut a long story short, SAAWARIYA disappoints big time. SAAWARIYA is...more

Saawariya is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's nadir. It is undoubtedly the most disappointing film of his career so far, film he calls a simple but exotic love story. Saawariya is a terrible re-working of Fyodor Dostoevsky's White Nights, earlier made so memorably in 1971 by Robert Bresson as Quatre Nuits D'un Rêveur (Four Nights of a Dreamer) and in particular by Luchino Visconti in 1957 as Le Notti Bianche (White Nights) starring the great Marcello Mastroianni and Maria Schell. Visconti's film is beautifully poetic, a beautiful blend of fantasy and reality, with the end heartbreakingly poignant. Saawariya is overblown (but of course,...more
