I watched Romulus, My Father, without high expectations. In many respects, those low expectations were met. In typically Aussie film-making fashion, there were long, languid shots of dry, arid landscapes; long silences and meaningful faraway looks; and a film that... Full review

A painfully slow moving movie. In the film, Raimond is portrayed by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a very likable and talented young actor with eyes that can blind you with their intensity. The kid in the film is a good actor. ... Full Review

Roxburgh is better with individual scenes. A sensitive evocation of a childhood rendered moot by the psychological damages inflicted by troubled parents, the picture has a tranquil, gentle nature about it that's almost soothing, while offering examples of familial terror Roxburgh processes superbly. ... Otherwise, Romulus, My Father is a decent film that just is , without being wow-worthy or notably disappointing. For the most part, Roxburgh's debut as a director is thoughtful, but it does suffer from the slow and rolling pace, which keeps it in a sort of cinematic limbo -- not good and not bad -- just there. ...
