She merely has to look sad when Rocky's taking punches, perk up when he's giving them, cheer when he wins, then drape herself around his bloody, triumphant body at the end.
Shire goes back to work in the pet store, the kid gets beaten up in the tough local school and Stallone is plain adrift.

Even if the series had gone astray from the themes and characterizations of the first film somewhat, we could still identify with Rocky, knowing that he was once a nobody like us.
Despite the fact that few fans really ever wanted to see Rocky lose it all, Stallone's grasp of the character is very much in line with what he wrote in the first film.
