But don't listen to me: I'm just a boy whose intentions are good ..... First there was Ice Age, and now comes Robots, a visually inventive animation with a high profile voice cast that delivers everything except heart. This is the basic (er, simplistic) nuts and bolts of this mechanical story, in which a robot-populated world is threatened with having to upgrade to shiny new models, instead of just repairing themselves with spare parts. ... The flaking paint and muted hues of the castaway robots provide some of the literal and figurative dimension that the story lacks. The old-movie gags are a reminder that "Robots" was originally supposed to be a screwball musical, and it still includes a few songs, which, except for Williams' lubricated version of "Singing in the Rain," are unremarkable, but the script was "updated" with big-butt and fart jokes for the kiddies. ... It all comes together in a story that works on every level, with something for every age, with silly humor, clever puns, sly satire, endearing characters, and, rarest of all, a story that is not just heartwarming but meaningful. And that real-life special effect Robin Williams. ... Full Review

apparently I wasn't the only one who was less than enthralled by the movie.....Robots" will probably fascinate some kids with its color, its noise, and its constant motion.....In fact, most of the cutest jokes come in the movie's first few minutes.....And Mel Brooks's voice is always pleasant to listen to, especially when it sounds exactly like Mel Brooks (except when it sounds like Al Pacino, and then it's still fun)..... ... The animation while often spectacular is just as often cluttered, packed with more than the eye can take in. Not even the talented cast of voices in "Robots" do much to instill any life into a motion picture that is mainly show and little else. ... Full Review

Rivalling Toy Story , The Incredibles and the Shrek movies in scope, fun and artistry, Robots is a fantastic CG animated entertainment, and then some.....It seems animators are the consistent dissidents of the mainstream film and TV world -....Great animation and a film that gets funnier by the minute.....But to judge it merely on storyline alone would be selling this subversive little film way short..... ... The Age
But overall, the film falls flat: it's too easily assembled, and it feels recycled. The plot is feeble: the merest hint of an intriguing story of revolt, Metropolis style, is swiftly subsumed into feelgood affirmation, with no apparent need for sense. ... Full Review

Robots is a hugely entertaining pixel-pusher that more than makes use of the techno-possibilities offered by its Metropolis-gone-Technicolor concept. The first decent family film of the year has been assembled ... Full Review
