Now a cult favorite, "Robocop" misfired at the Oscars when it was first released but did well at the Saturn Awards, winning for best sci-fi film, special effects, writing, make-up, and direction.
If you're like me and managed to miss this film I won't spoil it by telling you any more.

RoboCop is nothing short of a masterpiece of the genre.
the original RoboCop is rousing entertainment
But damn, what Verhoeven made from the film is pure art.
The movie was almost as prescient as it is kick-ass.

For the price, you're better off getting the whole lot in the Robocop Trilogy box set (MGM/UA, Rated R, DVD-$39.96 SRP), which features anamorphic bare bones editions of the latter films, but the extended cut special edition of the first film - including an audio commentary, deleted scenes, featurettes, TV spots, a photo gallery, and trailers. ... The only thing that saves this collection of sci-fi blood'n'gore extravaganza is the fact that the first movie is quite excellent, the second decent, and the extras on the first disc saves the rest of the trilogy.
The third movie, Robocop 3 , is simply awful.

Rob Bottin's robots (the ED 209 is hilariously sinister) and superb stop-motion animation round out an adrenalin-charged classic that stands up to repeated viewings exceptionally well.
Violent, pulse-pounding action never lets up as the remains of beat cop Murphy are transformed into one of the most visually remarkable and emotionally appealing creations ever to grace a B-movie.

The project works out great and Robocop does a fast and efficient job of cleaning up the streets.
OCP needs to get this problem under control and fast, so they investigate the possibilities of building a few more automated police units that can outdo Robocop.
