The Replicant is an excellent DTV Van Damme film, that should have been in theaters in my opinion , and it's very well made and written, plus Van Damme is both excellent as a Serial Killer and a Replicant duel... Full review

I think there is a Zen of encountering movies, not unlike encountering people. You need to get beyond the fact that they are incompetent at carrying who they are and dig into the essence of the person.Art is all in... Full review

Never thought I'd see the day where Jean Claude plays a bad guy....even if he's also playing a good guy in the same movie. This movie was better than I expected and Michael Rooker turned in a performance not seen... Full review

Since the release of TimeCop (1994), Jean Claude Van Damme had taken part in some disappointing films, all of which failed to reflect the glory days of his career, though now he has shown he's still got the touch with... Full review

I have to admit that "Replicant" succeeded in surprising me quite a few times, which is surprising itself since I wasn't ready for any surprise in a direct-to-video-van Damme-movie. But this movie is not like your average van Damme-stupidity. In... Full review
as a retired Van Damme fan, I was actually really surprised.

I used to be Jean-Claude Van Damme's biggest fan back when I was 13 or so, having seen HARD TARGET on video and ten watching every subsequent Van Damme movie up to MAXIMUM RISK (which for some reason I just... Full review

This was very different for a Van Damme movie. Even though this is like the 100th time Van Damme has done the double role thing, this is the best out of them. Van Damme really plays his roles well in... Full review

Replicant is a movie where a mask murderer goes on crime sprees killing innocent women. Not only that, this sick murderer (Jean-Claude) actually takes pictures of these sick crimes. That's where Jake comes in (Michael Rooker), Jake is a undercover... Full review

As to the movie itself, it holds up well.....Ringo Lam's direction is strong here....The most interesting aspect of the film is how Riley essentially tutors the clone in the ways of the actual person....though this isn't a film with a particularly vibrant color scheme.... ... Full Review

The film really boils down to the relationship between Riley and the replicant.....The main thing the film has going for it are some good fight scenes, some spectacular stunts and explosions.....All in all, it is not a bad action film.....I was surprised to find "Replicant" wasn't too bad at all..... ... The Unknown Movies
This kind of forced action is yet another consequence of the script barely having any story; part of what makes a good action movie is having the action coming out of characters making decisions that have at least some consequence to the main story. I imagine other people, like myself, around that time were now pretty disheartened about the chance of Van Damme ever starring again in a good movie. ... Full Review
