A Masterpiece
Jan 13, 2009

In my opinion, this was much better than Manhunter. This movie had amazing acting, a great score, and a strong atmosphere. This movie was entertaining throughout, a bit predictable, but otherwise a marvelous movie. This is one to be remembered.... Full review
The cast is the key

I think this is the best of the Hannable series. Edward Norton as the protagonist is dull, but the support cast is an all-star line-up: Hopkins, Phillip S. Hoffman, Emma Thompson, others. It also has good mood music and cinematography.... Full review
I saw 'Manhunter' ages ago so I won't bother with making comparisons. Ratner's 'Red Dragon' is smeared with blood, gore and violence (obviously to pull a crowd). It's nowhere near as good as 'Silence of the Lambs' but an okay... Full review

It was like watching silence of the lambs again but in a slow motion. Beginning was great. But too bad it was just a beginning. They should have used it as an ending. However, they would need a new story. But... Full review

a great follow-up to "Hannibal". Kept my interest the whole way through. Some genuinely freaky stuff here. Doesn't compare to "The Silence of the Lambs" (not much does), but it's definitely worthy.... Full review

Again, Hopkins is amazing in the role of Hannibal. Ralph Feines is also very good, but he is good in so many roles. The only problem with this film is that it is not "Silence of The Lambs". It is impossible... Full review

Red Dragon that inspired Blue Return shows that there is nothing to fear. Red Dragon is the third film in the series, but is a prequel. So, I guess that this makes the series so scary I can't even go to... Full review

If you don't get the title, I'm counting Hannibal Rising as the very first one. Red Dragon is a really good prequel to The Silence of the Lambs. It shows how Hannibal got in that room and how he helps Will... Full review

It was a great film that kept me in suspense from start to finish. Great story, acting and the works. Edward Norton is definitely an excellent actor. The acting is top-notch. Hopkins' humor is so subtle, yet hilarious at the same time. ... Full Review

Superior imo to Manhunter , which is still bloody good (we had a debate about these two on the old site), I thoroughly enjoy Red Dragon and find it a tense, well paced thriller with a psychological edge. featuring a great ensemble cast *Norton, Keitel, Hopkins, Fiennes, Watson, Hoffman, Parker, Leung, Duke* all bringing something to the party, with Ed and especially Ralph outstanding. ... No problem when you're faced with an unblinking Hopkins Naturally, this gives Hopkins the chance to chew on some get-cute dialogue (he describes the unctious Dr Chilton's shrink techniques as "fumbling at your head like a freshman pulling at a panty girdle"). ... Full Review

Though much of the flick looked excellent, a mix of flaws detracted from the experience. He tends to ruin his movies with idiotic comedy, flashy segments and silly tangents, factors that would become very out of place in this kind of movie. ... Full Review

The film sounded pretty good on standard definition detail and finds a decent upgrade with the higher bitrates possible with HD-DVD. I wouldn´t go as far as to state that this is a top-tier title, but "Red Dragon" is a very nice looking HD-DVD disc. ... Full Review

It's astonishing to think that Hannibal Lecter has been a cinematic boogeyman for over 20 years. Writer/director Michael Mann first tackled him in 1986's Manhunter , a grim procedural shot through with psychological undercurrents that recalled Mann's own work on... ... Full Article
