Based on Prozac Nation: Young and Depressed in America: A Memoir , an autobiography by Elizabeth Wurtzel, this screen adaptation extracts fine performances by all actors: anyway, two are mention-worthy: Christina Ricci and Jessica Lange. It really isnt a very good movie, per se, but it is a revealing examination of clinical depression and its effects. A no frills DVD release from Miramax, Prozac Nation has only one extra feature, that being the inclusion of theAnatomy of a Scene, episode from the Sundance cable TV channel about filming some of the more emotional sequences present in the film. ... Or maybe the fact that the book's author said the film was "horrible" had something to do with the distributor's reluctance to show it theatrically. A mark of the film industry's faith in "Prozac Nation" is the fact that it was made in 2001, and then when it found an international distributor, Miramax, was released only in limited overseas markets, never premiering in the United States until it appeared on cable in 2005. ...
