fluff and nonsense

Not bad, not good for a Betty Grable flick. Story, like all the Fox musicals on the 40's is silly, but sometimes silly can be charming. PIN-UP GIRL focuses on Betty of course and those "million" dollar legs. The story of... Full review
Hard To Pin Down

This is arguably the worst movie Betty Grable ever made once she became a star. It is, of course, quite possible that in 1944 it would have filled a gap in a world hungry for escapist entertainment but today almost nothing... Full review
Perhaps back then this was seen as a bright and bubbly tribute to the Armed Forces everywhere, but surely BETTY GRABLE deserved better material for a musical with a title like PIN UP GIRL. She's pretty and pert as a secretary... Full review
Entertaining fluff, but disappointing

Astaire & Rogers it's not. While it was somewhat entertaining fluff, it had few other redeeming qualities. The costumes were ridiculous, distracting and very unflattering. And unfortunately, there really wasn't anything significantly original in the storyline itself. The final number, while... Full review

I've just seen Pin Up Girl for the first time and found it good in parts, but not brilliant. Betty Grable plays a secretary and is a singer as well. She says she's engaged to every service man she has signed... Full review

This is a patriotic flag-waver of a film that could never be made anymore. The emphasis is on pulling together and supporting the armed forces, all in gleaming colour. It is a wartime film that says although the world is in... Full review

DVD Talk
Fox's Marquee Musicals DVD of Pin Up Girl is not quite as good looking as their other recent musical releases - many scenes have "hue pulsing", apparently from unevenly-faded matrices (Perhaps, Savant is far from the last word in lab analysis). Lacking real wit or pizzazz, Pin Up Girl is going to have to get by on almost 100% nostalgia appeal. ... Full Review

The films music, its lynchpin is fairly uninspired as well, never reaching the heights of MGMs classics. When shes sent on a job (which she, being a bit of a chronic liar, passes off as a USO spot), she runs into war hero Tommy Dooley (John Harvey), and after a lot of song and dancewell, if youve seen one musical, youve seen most of them. ... Exclaim! Canada
This wretched retelling of Cinderella (Grable in glasses cannot be identified by her pining beloved) is teeming with mediocre songs and unremarkable drama. The closest answer this film has to those leading men is rubber-faced goon Joe E. Brown, whose spastic disbelief and gaping grin cannot save the film from sinking under the weight of uninspired musical comedy. ... Full Review
