In filming the crash scene, Norman Thayer (Henry Fonda) and his grand-stepson run the "Thayer IV" into the rocks repeatedly.

Yes, it has the drama and the heartfelt aspect, but neither overwhelms the story and the humor of our main characters.

There's little that happens in On Golden Pond that isn't thoroughly predictable from the start, but the film is blessed with so much star power
Gorgeously photographed by Billy Williams , On Golden Pond is a wonderful valedictory for Henry Fonda , who died not long after the film's completion; Katharine Hepburn has less to do, but few can do so much with so little.

It's not a bad film, and certainly it's one that has found a place in many viewers' hearts, but it's one that needs viewers to supply a great deal of their own meaning, rather than creating it on its own.
