It paints a fascinating picture of the two-sides of Los Angeles that co-exist;....The divisive Italian actor Roberto Benigni is in his element performing, with abreathtaking gusto, bravura, and semi-improvised, comic monologue.....the humdrum and the sparkle, with the film's allegiance weighed heavily on the side of the former.....The characters are both imaginatively and believably drawn, brought to life by the stellar cast.....Giancarlo Esposito, as the delightfully monikered YoYo, turns in a warm, infect ... Night on Earth consists of a pleasingly varied collection of tales yet each is infused with the director's own brand of subtle affection, offbeat musings and wit. Giancarlo Esposito, as the delightfully monikered YoYo, turns in a warm, infectiously energetic performance. ... Full Review

Send to a friend "Night on Earth" (1991) may be Jim Jarmusch on cruise control, but even Jarmusch-lite is better than ninety-five percent of everything else in the world. Naturally, everything is spooled out in languid, dreamy style (as shot by Jarmusch's regular cinematographer, Robby Muller), but because the characters are interesting, funny and real, you never mind too much that things are happening so slowly. While Jarmusch movies are never particularly concerned with plot, Ghost Dog has a compelling enough story to keep things interesting to the very end. ... Full Review

The pleasure, of course, is found in the accumulation of detail, of character, of singular moments that transcend story. In the middle of this mock-serious plot, Jarmusch throws in a gaggle of oddball characters, including a lineup of mobsters led by poker-faced Henry Silva. ... Full Review

Much of " Night on Earth " creates the same kind of lonely, elegaic, romantic mood as "Mystery Train," his film about wanderers in nighttime Memphis. Jarmusch is not interested in making each segment into a short story with an obvious construction. ... Full Review
