As an horror lover I never have been a too big fan of Stephen King or his horror movie adaptations, since I find his work to be very formulaic but I've always enjoyed watching this pleasant light little movie. Without its... Full review

Which may be worth remembering on the admittedly slender chance that you go to see "Needful Things" for its dialogue, which is by turns cheap, cute, histrionic, profane and derivative.
Plot threads are left hanging with the bodies, and God's presumably lofty power is reduced to a petulant patty-cake that snaps a church steeple when the priest gets greedy.

That crowd may have trouble with the slow buildup in "Needful Things," and could also be disappointed by a dearth of spectacular effects, particularly given the perpetrator's potential.
W.D. Richter's screenplay also tones things down considerably, but even condensed "Needful Things" feels overlong because it takes so long to get going.
