Sometime in the 1980's, a trend began among young directors. Jim Jarmusch, Susan Seidelman, Spike Lee, to name a few, would sometimes seek non-actors, usually a personality in some area, for very specific parts. Some say it began with Susan Seidelman's... Full review

I've seen all of Jarmusch's films with the exception of Night on Earth. While all of them (even Dead Man and Year of the Horse, movies that boggled my mind with how strange they were) carry a level of off-beat,... Full review

'Mystery Train' is probably the most entertaining, interesting and understated of indie-fave Jim Jarmusch's early work (i haven't seen 'Coffee and Cigarettes' yet). The films portrayal of Elvis' birthplace of Memphis, possibly one of the most featureless, gritty and desolate... Full review

These are the people that songs like " Mystery Train " are about, and although in fact their lives may be flat and empty, in Jarmusch's imagination they are the real inhabitants of the city, especially after midnight. The best thing about " Mystery Train " is that it takes you to an America you feel you ought to be able to find for yourself, if you only knew where to look. ... Full Review

His style is essentially a vanity platform; it's Jarmusch's method of claiming the lofty status of artist without having the prerequisite of genuine talent. Jarmusch covers himself in interviews by stating that he prefers the realism of an open-ended finale to a resolution that is artificially imposed. ... Full Review
