This is a little different of a review for me, since everyone's feelings about it are unclear to me, and I can't make my statements to disclude your doubts, but from what I've heard, this movie did respectably as well, and went over great with the general movie-going crowd, so that's definitely a plus. ... In the lead up to the climax, watch out for the marvellous Elaine Strich, as she makes her mark, as Viola's own Monster in Law.
Monster in Law belongs to the two women, although Fonda steals the show with the best lines, the showiest clothes and the mouth-watering moments.

It's not quite the third coming of Jane Fonda, but "Monster-in-Law," for all its comedic obviousness and predictable plotting, does give the 67-year-old actress a better-than-expected vehicle with which to emerge from her 15-year hiatus.
Vartan's an unremarkable leading man and Lopez seems once again in romantic-comedy cruise control, recycling her "Maid in Manhattan" and "Wedding Planner" characters with little deviation.

Closing: It's amazing to me that Fonda would venture back into the public eye with a movie such as Monster-in-Law, with its single threaded joke structure and predicable romantic comedy storyline, you'd think she'd like to come back and do a movie that was much stronger than the feature I just watched. ...
