Predictability and lack of originality make Mimic an above average film instead of an excellent 'cult' favorite.....Bob was often on the set making unreasonable demands therefore del Toro pretty much disowned the film.... ... Full Review

The film gets claustrophobic and intense for the next straight 40 minutes.....Despite having a script that's a lot smarter than it's entitled to, "Mimic" is still pretty predictable.....The stalk scenes are well choreographed....The bloodletting in "Mimic" is swift and ferocious.....With an abundance of style and flash, "Mimic" is a good addition to its chosen genre..... ... a creepy, lyrical movie....A gutsy, first-rate, full-blooded ghost story, as elegant as it is eerie and brilliantly realised.....some dazzling performances.... ... Full Review

But somewhere down the line, someone decided FOR ME that Mimic 2 (2000, 82 minutes) wasn't marketable enough for me to enjoy in a U.S. theater. In the sequel, we're past all that unpleasantness and find Remi ( Alix Koromzay ) from the first picture teaching school children about the wonderful world of entomology, and after class, struggling to find a beau who won't make her cry. ... Well, by the end of the movie we thought we had heard the last of them, but never count a good movie monster out. Instead of producing spine-tingling chills, the director packages a few cheap thrills in a ridiculous and slow-moving sci-fi flick.....Elegantly crafted, "Mimic" looks like an A-list production.....When confronted with bad dialogue, unnecessary characters (F. Murray Abraham) and a nonsensical religious subtext, the best policy is to put your tongue in your cheek.....A promising director gets big bucks from Hollywood based on his stylish feature debut....Once again Del Toro's main characters unleash a Franke ... Christian Spotlight on the Movie
Just an ugly, ugly movie. Filmed literally and figuratively in the dark, Mimic is jam-packed with nifty special effects, appalling profanity, passable character development, gore, unformed (or uninformed) religious allegory, and lots and lots of gross, icky bug-guts. ... Full Review

If things were lighted enought to see a little of the action and the interesting monster F/X, "Mimic" would have been better. On the whole, "Mimic" is only a fair science-fiction/horror/monster flick. ... Full Review

there's a fascinating scene in which Susan takes two street kids on a tour through the insect world.....Bats, I suppose, will have no problem with Mimic , but human eyes need the occasional light source.....Coming from Mexican director Guillermo del Toro (no relation to Benicio), whose previous film was 1993's elegant, original vampire movie Cronos , that's a letdown..... ...
