I like this film . Its star packed with Hollywoods Actors and Nashville Country singers and don't forget Uncle Jessie. It is a must see if you are in to westerns. Make it a "old West" double feature and rent Silverado... Full review

The Old West was about three things: theives, women, and cards. All three are the basis to the 1994 western comedy, Maverick. Based on the 1960s TV show, Maverick details the events of Bret Maverick, a card playing, woman charming, gun... Full review

Fun and rompy, with good twists, but overlong. You can contribute that to Donner's direction, as it sometimes can get muddled in its own jokes.... Full review

I went to see this movie with some reservations in mind, but to my delighted surprised this movie was surprisingly good. The cast blended extremely well and that was all coupled with the fact that it Mr. Perry managed to tell... Full review

In the nineties, western was somewhat ditched in the landscape of the American cinema in spite of commendable endeavors to renew it like Clint Eastwood's revisionist, dusky "Unforgiven" (1992). "Maverick" hasn't got the pretensions to give the genre a new lease... Full review

There has never been a movie made where everyone in the whole movie is dishonest. There was not one honest person in it. It was really enjoyable, also the poker aspect was great. Can't wait for the next poker movie!... Full review

Maverick is one of the best western film you will ever see. Its funny, entertaining, romantic and has plenty of action and gambling. There isnt a western movie that can beat that. There is also a surprsing ending that may seem ridiculous... Full review

Can't really review this movie properly, the story is pretty original (atleast I dunno about too many films surrounding poker) but it really doesn't matter because it's just a comedy with lots of great dialogue, lot's of catchy phrases and beautiful... Full review

Enjoying working on his way as director and producer besides being a renowned actor, Mel Gibson is reportedly in deep consideration to spark not only one, but two more big screen features from his skilled hands. Further he added: "It'd be fun to play that character again. ... Full Review

How the West was fun: "Maverick" is affectionate, amiable, eager-to-please, in a TV-movieish sort of way. Gibson's Maverick is a charming, somewhat goofy and garrulous card sharp on his way to a half-million dollar all-night poker tournament aboard a riverboat. ... Full Review

Mel Gibson is delightful as the charming rambling gambler Bret Maverick in this big-screen remake of the beloved 1950s TV series. For those who don't know, "Maverick" was a Western with a wry and witty sense of humor, at once lampooning and embracing the genre as Bret became the first TV cowboy who would rather talk his way out of trouble than use his gun. ... The film is inspired, of course, by the 1950s TV series starring James Garner , who played a cheerful gambler who preferred to charm and con people rather than shoot them, although he was able to handle a sidearm when that seemed absolutely inescapable. ... Full Review

Though it occasionally falters when the pace slackens, "Maverick" is pretty much satisfying entertainment with all stops pulled out.....the actors take the script's myriad improbabilities and conveniences....But thanks to a keen, comical script by William Goldman and a sterling cast, it's smart dumb fun..... ... People always seem to sneer at Mel Gibson's Maverick , but I've always had a special place for it on my DVD shelf. As television remakes go, Maverick is pretty slick and clever, and gently spoofs the Western genre while... ... Full Article

Looking back over the summer of 1994, I can safely say that it's a serious candidate for the worst movie summer of all time. It's a jumble of big-budget flops, bad sequels, awful kids' movies, all-but-totally-forgotten comedies and other general... ... Full Article
