I like this film . Its star packed with Hollywoods Actors and Nashville Country singers and don't forget Uncle Jessie. It is a must see if you are in to westerns. Make it a "old West" double feature and rent Silverado... Full review

The Old West was about three things: theives, women, and cards. All three are the basis to the 1994 western comedy, Maverick. Based on the 1960s TV show, Maverick details the events of Bret Maverick, a card playing, woman charming, gun... Full review

Fun and rompy, with good twists, but overlong. You can contribute that to Donner's direction, as it sometimes can get muddled in its own jokes.... Full review

In the nineties, western was somewhat ditched in the landscape of the American cinema in spite of commendable endeavors to renew it like Clint Eastwood's revisionist, dusky "Unforgiven" (1992). "Maverick" hasn't got the pretensions to give the genre a new lease... Full review

Enjoying working on his way as director and producer besides being a renowned actor, Mel Gibson is reportedly in deep consideration to spark not only one, but two more big screen features from his skilled hands.
Further he added: "It'd be fun to play that character again.

How the West was fun: "Maverick" is affectionate, amiable, eager-to-please, in a TV-movieish sort of way.
Gibson's Maverick is a charming, somewhat goofy and garrulous card sharp on his way to a half-million dollar all-night poker tournament aboard a riverboat.

Mel Gibson is delightful as the charming rambling gambler Bret Maverick in this big-screen remake of the beloved 1950s TV series.
For those who don't know, "Maverick" was a Western with a wry and witty sense of humor, at once lampooning and embracing the genre as Bret became the first TV cowboy who would rather talk his way out of trouble than use his gun.
