Made of Honor revolves around Tom and Hannah, who have been platonic friends for 10 years. He's a serial dater, while she wants marriage but hasn't found Mr. Right. Just as Tom is starting to think that he is relationship material after all, Hannah gets engaged. When she asks Tom to be her "maid" of honor, he reluctantly agrees just so he can attempt to stop the wedding and woo her.

And this movie falls flat on both counts.
Dempsey's character, who is clearly meant to be a charming devil, is neither believable as a philanderer nor does he have enough roguish charm to make us like him.

The chemistry may be a bit tepid and the plot somewhat tardy and foregone, but there's enough for Dempsey fans to get dreamy about.
This time round, it's Dempsey, the millionaire playboy of Manhattan, who has two weeks to destroy, best friend Hannah's (Michelle Monaghan) wedding with a bloke (Kevin McKidd) she found on a business trip, only because he thinks his best friend is bride material.

What's unusual is that the trailer itself - that is, a three-minute film - seems more appropriate to the story of "Made of Honor" than the long, stretched-out thing we get when we see the movie.
Yet the sad thing is that instead of complicating a simple premise, "Made of Honor," with the same cast and a better script, could have pursued a more complicated direction.

Along the way, were forced to learn far too much about the onerous responsibilities attending this honorific, with changes of scenery thrown in as palliative.
The movie suggests that his father (gamely played by the director Sydney Pollack) has not set the best example by marrying six times.

Made of Honor" glides on an appealing, attractive cast led by Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan but stumbles at the end and resorts to some pratfalls for laughs.
You're less likely to notice the entree is not exactly extraordinary.

Remake of "Loverboy"?

Brad Kruse@imdb | 2008-05-04

I enjoyed Made of Honor. Often cute, quite engaging, the characters are likable, the story well-paced. There is no real bad-guy, the 'villain' is the Dempsey character's lack of self-respect, his shallow manipulation of sexual intimacies, and his failure to... Read more at imdb.com

Un-Needed Sophomoric Sexual Humor

Just an OK movie. Plot is decent; acting and directing were average. The use of crude sexual jokes throughout the movie takes it down several notches. It's as if they made the movie and then went back and added sophomoric... Read more at imdb.com
