To the extent that the film rises above its hackneyed script it does so thanks to the superb acting of its ensemble cast.....What mostly saves Lymelife from its weak script is inspired casting and strong performances.....Timothy Hutton is utterly convincing in his role as the afflicted sufferer, stealing every scene even when he has no lines to say.....Alec Baldwin appears to be channeling personal trauma in his pitch perfect role of the philandering family man;.... ... It's a film of tremendous humor and wit, but also a potent portrait of adolescent longing and a painfully heartfelt depiction of deteriorating families.....his compositions and pacing aren't dull either (I particularly liked the scene where shows a front-yard fistfight only as a reflection in a car window).....there's not a weak link in this first-rate ensemble--Hennessy is outstanding (in a role that could easily be played as a whiny shrew or a hapless victim), Baldwin continues his metamorphosis into one ... Affairs, bullies, splintering marriages, budding sexual relationships, father-son complications-the film blames none of this on the suburbs.....In the end, it's a badly shot, intermittently interesting film that possesses a few treasures, most of them wrapped up in individual performances....The worst thing about the film is....this insight is the only really notable thing about the film.....aside from the unfortunate Lyme disease scare, any and all of these problems could manifest had the film taken place ...
