This movie opened my eyes to the Renaissance era philosophy of Christianity practiced by the Roman Catholic church and watched the birth of the Lutheran Protestant Christian church. This movie is a historic drama that educates. I learned about the bible... Full review

This is an epic. Frankly, I am amazed that they were able to get the story right, apparently with the cooperation of the Catholic church, and it is a remarkable story of the power of one man, acting humbilng and with... Full review

This is a great portrayal of the true story of Martin Luther and all that he went through in the great Reformation. Before seeing it, it might help to know a little about the reformation. You should still be able to... Full review

I found this movie to be surprisingly interesting. I was not expecting it to be. But I found myself captivated by PHENOMENAL actors, amazing portrayals of real people and events, and a new perspective of Martin Luther and the events that... Full review

I loved Luther. At the end of the movie, the audience applauded. I haven't heard an audience do that in many years. Lutherans and other religions will love it for the historical background on the Reformation and the beginning of Protestant... Full review

this was a poor attempt in recreating an already touchy subject. The facts were "hollywoodized" and presented them in such a biased view. Perhapse they should have done a little researh on the subject before butchering the story.... Full review

At least the popcorn was good. Is this movie about Luther or Zwingli? It has very poorly researched Luther or added other elements of the reformation.............I think a better name for the movie would be the reformer as it really mixes... Full review

It's happy to be a medieval underdog story, only to tell us afterwards that Luther changed the world. The film short-hands a lot of stuff, but it's gripping for a while - partly for the Old World settings and costumes, partly because it's a true story, partly because it shares the same trajectory as a Robin Williams -versus-the-authorities plot. ... Not that the film is bad; on the contrary, there are some superb elements, including the production design and cinematography. The sudden introduction of romance with Claire Cox's Katharina von Bora, a nun on the run, is problematic in that there doesn't seem to be a place for bedroom frolics, when the tone of the story is more suited to the historic facts. ... That aside, Luther remains an involving (if slightly dry) historical biopic, bounded along by some eye-catching supporting players (Alfred Molina is hilariously sleazy as a corrupt priest, while Sir Peter Ustinov is wickedly funny as a German prince) and Fiennes' unusual performance.....One minute, Luther is a steadfast zealot, the next he's plagued by doubt and self-loathing.... ... But a convincing performance by Joseph Fiennes rescues "Luther" from TV-movie biopic exile. The man who answers solely to God is entrenched in controversy from the get-go. Determined to bind himself to Christ, the former law student is driven by ... Full Article

The historical figure is badly in need of resuscitation. Mention the upcoming film Luther  here on the East Coast, and almost to a man everybody thinks it has to do with the fortieth anniversary of Dr. King's "I have a... ... Full Article

This frankly hagiographic life of Martin Luther - monk, teacher, heretic and architect of the Reformation - isn't really the stuff of cinema; it's more a teaching aid suitable for your church youth group or bible study circle, and to... ... Full Article
