PLOT CLARIFICATION

This movie does have a plot. It follows the same 4 basic rules of story: hook, build, climax, conclusion. I'd explain them here, but that'd be a spoiler and somebody would probably have a fit and beat their dog in frustration.... Full review

Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Wilson, a software engineer who has just lost his wife to suicide. The movie traces Wilson's descent into gasoline sniffing, erratic behavior, wanton risk taking, and ultimate self-destruction. P.S.H. and Kathy Bates turn in good performances but,... Full review

This is one of the most thoughtful, human movies I've ever seen. This is about real people, real life, real sarrow. It's also a very funny movie. Subtle but hilarious at the most tragic times. I would suggest to anyone, just... Full review

One never knows how grief will affect anyone. The loss of a loved one is something no one is prepared for. When tragedy strikes, as it's the point of this film, the surviving spouse is so desolate that he cannot deal... Full review

"Love Liza" is the type of movie that plays well at film festivals (it debuted at the 2002 Sundance festival, where it took home the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award), because its performances are solid even spectacular. However, when viewed outside of the film-festival atmosphere, this type of dour, depressing character drama looks pretty ridiculous, pointless claptrap that wastes those fine performances in service of a story that's all too predictable. ...
