This is a great movie about 1950's Los Angeles. We have a sleazy newspaper, corrupt cops, abusive cops and organized crime. Kevin Spacey was wonderful in this film. Danny DeVito gave an outstanding performance as well. The story was almost perfect,... Full review

Fantastic film, with great storytelling, superb acting, and a very distinctive style. Though the plot is somewhat complex, I always enjoy watching this, just because the three leads are so good and the story so involving. Definitely deserved the Oscar.... Full review

Alas, that was the reality and Spacey was the biggest beneficiary of the film.....While in the post coital afterglow of his first Oscar, he didn't succumb to the allure of oversized, bloated projects.....Spacey was the favorite through the award season with the only possible Oscar spoiler being his L.A. Confidential co-star Russell Crowe's performance in The Insider.....If you foolishly assign credit to Spacey, you'd better be ready to argue....While it would be nice to give Spacey credit for the film's $16 ... Curtis Hanson's best movie may not be the American masterpiece many think, but it remains one of the best neo-noirs of the '90s and a fine example of classical Hollywood storytelling. The filmmaking is competent and engaging but middlebrow, and Dante Spinotti's cinematography is striking but too clean to achieve Chinatown -level subversion. ... Full Review
