Very realistic if you see the film. In terms of premise, you wonder how "realistic" applies to a happily married heterosexual mother of two in New Jersey without a GED who winds up making love to her best female friend and... Full review

Wow - what an excellent film! Great acting, directing and story. Sort of "Rainman meets Hoboken housewife meets lesbian love affair". I must admit, I was very leery of watching this, fearing it was going to be a Lesbian Love Story.... Full review

- I enjoyed this movie! Both actresses were in top form, and both the plot and the script were incredibly realistic (which can be a refreshing break from all of the "out there" Hollywood story lines). - Briefly, it's about a... Full review

While there are some genuine moments between the characters portrayed by Lili Taylor and Courtney Love, the film as a whole is an unbelievable clunker that rings terribly false. The previously unrecognized scientific talent of the Taylor character is an unnecessary... Full review

Film Threat, Hollywood's Indie V
Maybe the lesson, if there is one, is that tiny things can change everything but the film is so mundane in its scenarios that all credibility is lost almost immediately.
Julie (Taylor) has had enough so she finally decides to throw out her husband and make a go at a college degree since, you see, she really likes to read science magazines ...

There were several standout performances, including Spalding Gray as Julie's community college professor, and Courtney Love as Claire, Julie's supportive best friend who can't quite keep up with Julie's dreams.
Julie Johnson effectively showed the fallout of one person's decisions on those around her, including, in this case, the kids, the husband, the neighbors, and the best friend.

The main problem is the way the film deals with Julie's gift for science.
She turns to her best friend (Love) for support, and the two soon find themselves romantically entwined, to the consternation of Julie's kids and the closed community in general.
