This latest adaptation of Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth takes an unusual approach, acknowledging the original book as an inspiration for its characters.
Final Thoughts With or without that third dimension, Journey to the Center of the Earth is good, goofy fun for the entire family--even my young daughters found plenty to enjoy--not intended to be taken too seriously.

Here's a perfect popcorn movie for parents and kids to share.
He has been searching for his long-lost hero brother, who disappeared looking for a route to the center of the Earth.
Fraser, strong- jawed and always decent, is an admirable action hero.

Sadly, the end result is more like spilling your toys out of the box to find your sister has broken them - and added some dodgy CGI.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is a fun movie the entire family can enjoy together.
The movie has some flaws, but kids won't notice and most parents won't mind.
The film never gets too scary, but will give the kids a good jump or two.

The special effects never look convincing, partly - I suppose - due to their insistence on making the film in 3D. Fraser is okay in the lead role
Special features include a mediocre commentary with Fraser and director Eric Brevig, a profile of Josh Hutcherson (the annoying kid), an interactive game and a look at the special effects being created.

I will say that the 3D presentation on this DVD is an improvement from Hannah Montana's movie but I feel it'll still be quite some time before we see it applied to a good film.
Too much effort seems to be placed in producing situations that warrant such effects and the rest of the picture suffers.
