Izo , however, is simply awful, one of the most painful, unpleasant and uninteresting movies that I've had to slog through in recent years.
Death Bed and Twilight of the Ice Nymphs were cited, but Izo beat them both out simply because while all three were horribly boring, Izo is incredibly long and boring.

Almost immediately after a graphic birth scene, the violent samurai Izo (Kazuya Nakayama) is crucified, but he seems unable to die under torture.
The only time Izo hesitates is before wiping out a school of children in a scene that unfortunately parodies the recent real-life tragedy in Russia.

Bloody-Disgusting
Izo is Miike's first full on art film and does not make sense on any literal level.
Izo is entertaining visually and is full of all the usual Miike madness; the violence, the twisted sexuality, the triple digit body count, the "I can't believe what I'm looking at" moments.
