Of the entire imagined-shit-coming-to-life-and-causing-chaos sub genre that has bombarded the family friendly calendar slots in the last year or so ( Bedtime Stories , Night At The Museum , Imagine That ) Inkheart is certainly the best.....In the end, for all its lush production design, glossy visuals and like-clockwork set pieces, it's impossible to escape the feeling....Lastly Eliza Bennett reads to us a few of her favorite passages from the Inkheart novel..... ... It has an appealing premise (despite a sort of subversive subtext that may be indicating reading can be "dangerous"), fine actors....it is visually interesting, especially in the last third.....Dialogue is crisp and clear....the score is well mixed into the overall soundtrack..... ... Full Review

if Inkheart were a better film.....If a story gets boring, you can always skip a few pages and move on.....No doubt many people will love Inkheart....Mirren is the film's most spirited and appealing character.....The effects were great, but that was the trouble..... ... Full Review

On the upside, it's an ingenious tale with some witty literary jokes.....He conveys plausibly the hubris of a writer who's so pleased to see his characters in flesh-and-blood form....And Jim Broadbent gives a gleeful performance as Inkheart's author, Fenoglio.....Of course this is nothing new in Hollywood, where movie executives are notoriously fond of getting their underlings to do their reading for them..... ... The casting of Brendan Fraser is the film's first problem.....the film looks splendid, the effects are terrific, costumes and setting lavish, lovely .......There's nothing terribly wrong with Inkheart but it just doesn't quite engage us;....Yet the story telling falters as director Iain Softley waffles with the elements, allowing far too much chopping about both in camera and in editing..... ...
