This film has several problems, not the least of which is the script.....Williams is the story's real highlight (Maguire, once again, casts a blonde American gal as a Brit, with excellent results), admirably exhibiting the way the troubles of her character's life are pressing on her happiness and sanity.....unfortunately creates a disjointed, uneven picture in the process.....It's a shame, because the film does have some good moments....Unfortunately, the script demands.... ... This ambitious British picture on an urgent topical subject is torpedoed by a poor script before it gets down the slipway. ... Full Review

Once again, there's a stunning central female performance, this time from Michelle Williams, seamlessly convincing and impeccably accented as a nameless chav slapper, neglected by her policeman husband but devoted to her little boy. Reducing its male characters (McGregor, Matthew Macfadyen) to two-dimensional onlookers doesn't help either, as the movie gradually loses sight of everyone except Williams. ... Full Review

Report this review Saw Incendiary at Apollo Cinema in London at the weekend as couldn't ind it locally - and WOW what briliant cinema to see it in -I thought it was a fairly good film - i'm slightly biased as was an extra in it - but the story was Ok and covered a topical controversial storyline - it's never gonna break any box office records as a blockbuster but its good viewing and thought provoking - as to whether or not it could happen and how we'd all react if it did . ... delivered great performances time and time again.....this film feels slow is not a very good thing.....But despite the acclaim, I still always think of her as a very good actress who has always played very plain and somewhat unsexy characters.....The story itself is interesting but not necessarily strong.....as Michelle Williams' is one of the best performances you will see this time of year..... ... Ultimately, Maguire can't seem to make up her mind what kind of film this is supposed to be and she loses control of the multiple strands of the story. For a while, it morphs into political thriller territory in the style of Defence Of The Realm with Jasper tenaciously investigating the circumstances of the bombing and uncovering the possibility of a high level cover-up. ... There are so many things wrong that it's the type of film that makes you wonder how it ever got made (presumably Maguire's stock was so high after her initial success that she had free rein to choose any project). While her husband and son attend the fateful match, McGregor's character explains the finer detail of the offside rule to her on the sofa. ... Full Review
