What more can't you expect? Sandra Bullock did an awesome job in the movie. She was a brilliant nurse, but a stupid woman in the movie. The acting was good, but not great..but this is also kind of an old-timey..so you... Full review

In Love and War is one of the greatest romance films ever. O'Donnell and Bullock shine in this sentimental melodrama about war and what it can do to love. O'Donnell is great as Hemingway and Bullock rocks as the nurse that... Full review

For those of you who have read Hemingway, you will be surprised and captivated by the boyishness of the pre-war Hemingway that O'Donnell gives us so beautifully. The episodes in the life of the author that are covered by In Love... Full review

The passionate love story set against an epic historical background, but we never really get to know the protagonists as complex emotional beings.
Considering the real life characters, Richard Attenborough's film ends up being rather nice, rather than noisy, possibly the result of too many writing cooks spoiling the brothy script.

This unevenness and the lackluster romantic energy between Bullock and ODonnell made In Love and War more of a homework assignment than an enjoyable moviegoing experience.
Instead, Attenboroughs film seems to struggle under the combined weight of spark-less chemistry between leads Bullock and ODonnell and the tendency of the director toward sweeping epic strokes, even when the moments might best be played out quietly.
