With its sparkling performances and sentiment about the love between two sisters intact, In Her Shoes is intelligent and absorbing.
In Her Shoes is warm and funny as we get sucked into the lives of these two individuals who are so different, but care enormously for each other.

It's the second part that makes the movie worthwhile.
But it's not just a sister-sister story we get; it's a two-part movie, with an unattractive, unsympathetic first half and a schmaltzy, sentimental second half.

In Her Shoes is forgettable and wrong-headed.
IMAGE Fox gives us In Her Shoes in a pretty good anamorphic-widescreen transfer of the film's original 2.35:1 theatrical presentation.
The film's score comes across best, filling the channels with mood.

Overall: an OK rental for aficionados and 'nadas of standard, moderately entertaining sister/family/romantic stories with a predominantly female point of view.
Ms. Collette, who gained twenty-five pounds for the role, creates a sympathetic, well-conceived character in sister Rose.

Toni Collette proves once again what a great actress she is and Cameron Diaz, whom I've never thought much about talentwise before, does a remarkable job here.

The movie is so well-cast, sympathetically acted and delicately directed -- and so genuinely touching and funny -- that it leaps right out of the narrow confines of the family bonding formula.
No film so far this year bears out this adage more acutely than Curtis Hanson's "In Her Shoes," a comedy-drama about two grown, estranged sisters with a secret in their family closet that Fox is marketing as the fall's blue-chip chick flick.

But it's the good kind of chick flick, about real women with real problems....And this is the wonderful thing about Diaz's performance and Susannah Grant's ( Erin Brockovich , Ever After ) script (based on Jennifer Weiner's novel) and Curtis Hanson's ( 8 Mile , Wonder Boys ) direction.... ... But that would be to really sell this compelling character-based drama way short.....And it is equally confidently acted by Diaz, Collette and Maclaine, who gives possibly her most outstanding performance....It is the latest feature from LA Confidential director, Curtis Hanson and stars three of the best actresses working today:.... ... The film has some funny movie in-jokes.
Aside from them, however, this is an exceptional film that will have you both laughing and crying.
This the best performance I have ever seen from Diaz.
