Igby Goes Down Is Plenty Buoyant

Kieran Culkin has shown he has the chops to carry a film with Igby Goes Down. Irreverent, funny and loaded with heart wrenching emotional baggage, Burr Steers has created a unique film with memeorable characters. The supporting performances are terrific right... Full review

Perhaps, I never could relate with this movie because I'm so "middle class." But what gives? Certain things don't make much sense to me. McCaulley Culkin Jr.'s family is so loaded, he is an "entitled" child with access to the best... Full review

Nothing is surprising in the movie. In the first 30 minutes, the movie totally lacks of coherence and the force of pushing the plot forward is deficient. The story itself, the director as well as the audiences are at the same... Full review
This film doesn't make us feel for any of its characters, but it's so full of memorable vignettes, it's hard to forget about this. It's dark and depressing but at the same time consistent in tone and so full of... Full review

Igby Goes Down is only redeemable for the many good lines given to Keirin Culkin's character. The plot is jagged, the acting, at many times, seems disingenuous, and the visuals are nothing to call home about. All in all, a dissappointing... Full review

Fantastic dialogue. Great writing, good acting, good cast. Proves that not all Culkins are a total loss. There are plenty of movies out there about troubled teens, but this one stands well above most.... Full review

Movie was pretty cool. Seems like a modern movie about a rich kid rebelling and falling into some very cool situations. Some parts were quite unsettling like the beginning. The movie made me feel very apathetic. Although i like the realism... Full review

This movie was witty and well planned. it lacked anything but creativity with its deep drama followed by a sharp comic relief. I highly advise anyone who enjoyed garden state to see this. I do believe they go hand in hand.... Full review

The opening scene sets a fine example for the rest of the film - painful deepness, dark comedy, and wonderful characters; this film is a virtual hodge-podge of deep meanings and emotions. Igby Goes Down is the story of Igby (Keiran Culkin) who floats through life - always trying to further himself from his obssessively strict, self-serving mother, Mimi (Sarandon). ... Full Review

A delectable mix of musical beds in the style of The Graduate and Tadpole, Igby Goes Down delights with its crazy characters that are brought to life by a superbly talented ensemble cast. Witty and amusing with underlying tragic overtones, Igby Goes Down is a coming of age story, and a wonderful mix of quirky characters from a dysfunctional family. ... Full Review

Indeed, the intention of Burr Steers, the first-time writer and director of Igby Goes Down, does not seem to be to trump Salinger, but rather, in Igby, to create his own notion of how a boy like Holden would live in the 21st century, and in this vein, the film succeeds mightily. ... Full Review
