The film was a huge hit when released partly due to its use of the song Jumma Chumma which has become extremely popular to this day. However, the song was plagiarized from African musician Mory Kante's song "Tama Tama". This was the last successful film for Bachchan in the early 90s before he announced his temporary retirement immediately after the release of this film for five years. Rajnikanth, who stars in the film, later remade it in Tamil as Basha_(film).
