A different take on an old story but lacks flare.

This is the second movie I have seen in a couple weeks with a play on words in the title. This one Freshman Orientation and the other Sex Drive. Sex Drive is a lot better though. John Goodman is hillarious and... Full review
I was extremely disappointed with this movie. It looked like it might be one of those unheard of movies which end up making you laugh for hours. I instead found myself groaning every scene as gay stereotypes are reinforced and the... Full review

Caught this movie on HERE! on Demand. What a nice surprise. Completely funny throughout, appealing characters, and interesting story. The premise revolves around a straight college guy who pretends to be gay to get closer to a girl he likes. This... Full review

Freshman Orientation" shows a few too many signs of muted intelligence to succeed as the dumb comedy it strives to be.....in fact, if nothing else, he displays the ability to make an extremely better movie.....Shiraki's film doesn't fail due to any lack of thought or effort;....He writes smart main characters who are unfortunately at the mercy of dumb plotting.....It's fitting that in a movie about identity, Ryan Shiraki is clearly struggling to find his as a filmmaker..... ... Sam Huntington (2006's " Superman Returns ") is ideal for the part, an affable and relatable actor who seems to understand who Clay is and runs with the part.....As love interest Amanda, Kaitlin Doubleday (2005's " Waiting ") isn't some vacant-eyed beauty....Unlike in " I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry ," the actual gay characters in "Freshman Orientation" aren't unequivocally flamboyant, swishy drama queens....Another positive homosexual portrayal is Rodney, played by a winning, against-type John Goodma ... And it's in developing and evolving the Clay/Amanda pairing that Freshman Orientation excels.....It's too bad the motion picture as a whole isn't as quirky and clever as its double-edged title.....The best college comedies evoke a sense of time and place even when they're not being serious about the situation.....Equally unbearable is Rachel Dratch....John Goodman is delightful as the owner of a gay bar (and provides some of the movie's few genuine laughs)..... ... A strained mixture of crude sexual humor, romance, and coming-out story, it's an overly derivative entry from Regent Releasing, made watchable, albeit marginally, by funny supporting turns from Rachel Dratch and John Goodman . As a result, there's a glaringly inconsistent tone to Freshman Orientation , which benefits greatly from the all-too brief appearances by Dratch, as a drunken older student perpetually on the make, and Goodman, as a gay bartender and Randy's confidante. ...
