The complicated interplay of storylines is handled well.... I liked the "titles" -- the narration inserts that accompany the images at different moments. They add context and depth to the characters and moments.... Many of the characters have moments of unlikability,... Full review

Don Roos wrote and directed this very lively, sometimes poignant though not very funny comedy-drama all centering around an abortion counselor's secret that she had given birth to her step-brother's baby when she was a teenager and quickly gave it... Full review

Rarely do I not watch an entire movie to the end no matter how bad. However I think I mercifully hit stop about a half hour into this so called film. This movie was so lame that it had to put... Full review

I enjoyed Happy Endings more than any other film I've seen this year. I admit I had a difficult time following the convoluted plot and that the side title narration did not really help, but I found the film to... Full review

Filmmaker Don Roos brings a unique perspective to his films, and this omnibus 2005 film exemplifies his idiosyncratic style quite well. Even though it doesn't work in its entirety, it has a great ensemble cast and some really sharp observations... Full review

Here's another example of an overhyped overhip film that disappoints right away, and all along the way. Lisa Kudrow, and would you believe it, Tom Arnold, are excellent, but that's where the excellence ends. The storylines are both tedious and precious... Full review

The soundtrack, with tracks from Astrud Gilberto, Dirty Three, Calexico and Greyboy is one of the film's pleasures and Gyllenhaal's singing performance a highlight.....The subplot about the two lesbians (Sarah Clarke, Laura Dern) and their homosexual couple friends (Steve Coogan, David Sutcliffe) is rather silly....Writer/director Don Roos (The Opposite of Sex) has brought together a strong ensemble cast, with Maggie Gyllenhaal stealing our hearts..... ... The acting is very good by a very strong cast.
Most of them are sleazy.
The moral politics of this movie appear to be as confused as its plot.
Most of them get what they deserve
This is slightly worse than director Don Roos' recent film, Bounce.

Happy Endings certainly has its flaws.....What resonates most here, in large part due to sublime performances from Lisa Kudrow and Tom Arnold (yes, the same) in the roles, are the characters of the two parents:....Roos's Bounce was lacking in the gay department....In both films, however, the pregnancies consistently help them become better people, once again betraying Roos's penchant for childlike optimism..... ...
