Weinstein admits that he thought the film would do much better than it did and sees the failure of Grindhouse's U.S. release as a rap on his reputation for movie savvy.

Besides the frightening prospect of Rob Zombie being allowed to make another bad movie, the news should have been pretty harmless, but I started thinking about all the hype and general cooler-than-thou hipsterism that surrounds everything Tarantino/Rodriguez/Grindhouse, and things got ugly. ... The damned thing is only available in Japan, but there are rumors of a new Grindhouse complete release for later in 2008.
but with the strike and Grindhouse 's poor performance I assumed this was an idea that was going to be abandoned

thank goodness Robert Rodriguez is actually making this twisted revenge film....As disgusting and horrific as it is, this is one of the most effective comedy films I have seen....Grindhouse also includes four trailors for (then) fake films from Robert Rodriguez, Rob Zombie ( House of 1000 Corpses , The Devil's Rejects ), Simon Pegg ( Shaun of the Dead , Hott Fuzz ), and Eli Roth ( Cabin Fever , Hostel )..... ...
