On-camera interviews, even with Bruce's mother, and footage of the dishevelled Vilanch at work, make this film an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at the comedy game.
Vilanch is a flabby, hair's-a-fright entertainment industry nut -- a terrific subject for a documentary.

It's like naively finding out your favorite comedians' quick wits and comic prowess are the result of some performance-enhancing drug: Bruce Vilanch, the creatine of comedy.
If there's one thing Kuehn does that cramps Vilanch's style, it's the abrupt editing that pulls away from a celeb barb before its ba-dum-bum can register.

I can see from " Get Bruce ," however, that he's good in front of an audience these days, no doubt because he has a lot more confidence and because his persona is familiar to his audiences.
Some of the film's best sequences have Vilanch bouncing lines back and forth with Crystal and Williams.
