The film is touching, hilarious, and truly one of the very best films of the year.....anyone hoping for MORE will find just a handful of new laughs instead of a richer, heartier film.....cutting juvenile remarks seeming to come from a real place rather than some fantasy land in which all the characters are naturally funny.....As a director he is able to get some really great, funny performances out of his cast --.... ... the best punch lines are the ones that linger long after they've been delivered....if Apatow and Sandler hadn't satirized their "high" concepts already..... ... Full Review

Apatow has abandoned the desire to have fun with him.....Yet the film has a beguiling candour and reflectiveness which is new for Apatow and Sandler.....In compensation, the script includes one of those as well.....indulges in yet another evening of self-absorption, wallowing in old videos of his most fondly remembered screen performances..... ... Funny People is genuinely funny at times, predictably foul-mouthed, touching and surprisingly frank in its approach to death, love and loyalty.....In this maudlin, meandering comedy drama Sandler plays George Simmons, a famous stand-up comedian and successful movie star..... ... Full Review

Aside from being long-winded, the action is contrived;....Again, Apatow plays it for laughs in a memorable lunch scene where George bullies Ira into fighting back the tears..... ... Full Review

It's a hundred thousand times better than any Sandler comedy of the past decade, and an entertaining tale from an adept filmmaker.....George (Sandler) is a top standup comedian-turned-star of low brow comedies.....and an engaging story despite the gargantuan running time.....A big standout is Jason Schwartzman, smarmy and hilarious as Ira's irritatingly successful roommate, and Eric Bana as Laura's husband..... ...
