Of course the acting and visual aren't really A's, but that's what makes it so great. They become perfect as a result of their imperfections. I see this as a wonderful kids movie. If you were exposed to this film as... Full review

Loved this movie in the theater and love it on DVD. It has a great retro-look and just love the music. And Ming was perfect. Needs a sequel with all the original actors.... Full review

Interesting visuals for the time, but considering some of the actors that are in this it's horrible. What a waste of hd channel time!... Full review

I remember when I first watched this movie back in the 80's. It was always a blast to watch even though it was totally corny and hokey at times. But I have always found a place in my heart for movies... Full review

The "detailed rating" system does nothing to show just how fantastic this movie is... it's a classic! From the costumes to the sets to the sound track not much out there can beat this film besides Barbarella!! I've loved it seen... Full review

What a hoot! When this movie was originally released you have to admit, with its limited special effect abilities at that time, it did pretty darn good. With that perspective in mind, I hope you enjoy it.... Full review

This movie for all the pure at heart. Flash Gordon is a human super hero, no special powers, just lots of balls. The women in this movie are hot too!... Full review

Adapted from the groundbreaking newspaper adventure strip created by Alex Raymond in 1934 and the Universal cliffhangers that followed, "Flash Gordon" was produced to capitalize on the success of "Star Wars," released three years earlier. Dino De Laurentiis' 1980 production of "Flash Gordon" is as shiny and colorful as Christmas cellophane, yet many of its bright surfaces are made from form-fitting latex and leather. ... Full Review

Some other featurettes on the making of the film would have been great and a retrospective would have also been nice. The anamorphic widescreen is amazingly beautiful and the film has never looked better with all the scratches and dust marks removed. ... Full Review

Indirectly a comment on what audiences had adored three years prior, Flash Gordon bathes happily in its own excess. Sam J. Jones may have had to be dubbed because his acting was so wooden, but physically he's the ideal fit for Flash Gordon - "quarterback, New York Jets," he announces proudly - a blonde and uncomplicated hero, Luke Skywalker's true father. ...
