Linklater's filmmaking has become unexpectedly....The first film, while charming, fell for its own swooning romanticism, ignoring the fact....Linklater won't give us the same amiably non-dramatic comedy with the bad vibes only faintly hinted at.....But then A Scanner Darkly actually had a strong, paranoid dystopian framework requiring conventional pacing and revelations Linklater previously seemed incapable of or uninterested in.....his aversion for strong narrative beats seemed almost as strong as his aver ... Obviously director Richard Linklater has no idea how to make a good movie, and should've stuck with his original dream of becoming a gynecologists. Score: 5/10 (i liked it when Kinnear said his stay wasn't good and the hotel hostess' expression didn't change one iota... ... Full Review

Fast Food Nation is a perfect example. Interlocking, multi-character films with a lesson can be interesting, and they can be even be popular ( Traffic made $125 million in 2000), but Fast Food Nation makes the mistake of focusing on its message. ... Full Review
