thrilling scenes of psychological horror.....there's some exciting news for horror fans regarding Guillermo Del Toro 's remake of the spooky foreign film " The Orphanage .....He's a much better director than he is a writer, having particular difficulty with endings.....Aside from his screenwriting flaws, Fessenden's conlusions often suffer from having terrible low-budget special effects..... ... It is perhaps The Orphanage 's greatest success....the film tackles every crevice of its supernatural premise with ingenuity in order to use its dead children to legitimate, deeper effect..... ... Full Review

His techniques are classic but effective, and he doesn't feel the need to mix in satire or humor to disguise them. The Orphanage (or El Orfanato as its called in its native Spain) belongs way up there next to Halloween, The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby as one of the great horror pictures of our time. ...
