Wang reconstructs the bachelor society with a likable cast of bit players who playfully jostle at each other in mah jong parlors, barbershops, and corner diners.

The vocals and music were both well represented here although there wasn't a lot of stereo separation between the channels.
The flesh tones looked good and the blacks were solid black in most parts of the movie.

Eventually, Mei Oh is left open to the advances of local lothario Ah Song (played by charm and smarm by Eric Tsang, one of the great character actors in contemporary Hong Kong cinema).

There's an improbable affair and an even more improbable act of revenge, which leaves that earlier charm -- and a bloodied human ear -- just lying on the floor of a cold-water flat.
Characters such as these are Wang's best ingredient; you just wish he'd mixed a better drink this time around.
