It was in Dreams (1990), his 28th film, and one of the last three he directed in the twilight of his career, that Kurosawa presented a distinctly reverential tribute to one of his favourite artists, Vincent van Gogh.
His efforts to strike a conversation is snubbed by Van Gogh (played admirably by well-known American filmmaker and long-time Kurosawa enthusiast, Martin Scorsese).

However, Kurosawa's reach extends far beyond the Western, as The Hidden Fortress was ripped off - and "Samurai" was replaced with "Jedi" in one of my generation's greatest film, Star Wars .
Warner has done a quite impressive job on the transfer for Akira Kurosawa's Dreams and preserved the film's theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 with a nicely done anamorphic transfer.

These segments are more in the nature of vintage Kurosawa and again in stark contrast to the film's more colorful and picturesque scenes.....These episodes reflect the director's concern for nature, trees, animals of the forest, and so on.....The imagery is striking:....besides, even taken individually they are highly provocative and visually stimulating..... ...
