is a triumph of naturalist-expressionist filmmaking.....We're told that the movie was in no way successful in 1928.....The picture is sharper and many scenes recover that 'dusty grayscale' look of German silents.....The film looks far better than any earlier incarnation this viewer has seen.....the images of Louise Brooks as Lulu were amazing..... ...
