Shah Rukh Khan never worked with the gorgeous beauty after 'Devdas'.....was apprehensive about Shah Rukh's consent for the project....so the two of them have an excellent working chemistry.....It is not that efforts were not made to reunite the sparkling pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya on the silver screen, but all failed..... ... Bhansali does hit a wrong note by stalling the tragic momentum with a late lighthearted number, but this minor stumble doesn't blunt the emotional impact of the finale or the whole of this beautiful film.
One doesn't need to know of "Devdas"' celebrated literary origins to recognize it as being an archetypal romantic tragedy of "Romeo and Juliet" proportions, and Bhansali literally spared no expense to make his version just as larger-than-life as the novel's legacy.

We were trying to make a good film.
Jackie Shroff is Devdas' best friend Chunnilal.
It was even written in a section of the press that we were not taking good care of the crew --- that I make unbelievable demands on my technicians.

From the first visual to the last, Devdas is a treat to the eyes.
Somewhere here, Bhansali seems to lose the strings and the film degenerates rapidly.
That in itself is no surprise for a Hindi film.
