The movie begins and ends with Rosario Dawson. Her performance is clearly oscar material; she has a talent for evoking myriad emotions in the span of a single scene, a single shot. The role demands an almost unbearable intensity, and she... Full review

Depending on your revenge story preferences, the brutally pretentious "Descent" is either a payback flick with an agonizingly formless middle, or a soul-darkening head trip bracketed by a crude vengeance tale.
Instead we get an incoherent, blackout-hued slog through an underworld club scene where a drifting, dead-eyed Maya befriends a ripped, tattooed and protective DJ named Adrian (Marcus Patrick), who digs his dance floor power.

That's really what makes Descent such an awful, awful movie.
Director Talia Lugacy does a lousy job of getting across just how traumatic rape is, and frankly that's not just bad filmmaking it's dangerous social policy for a movie that seems to be wrapping itself in the cloak of girl power.

However, the distanced style, hard grainy lighting and extremely lengthy rape sequences make DESCENT not only often unpalatable, but also mostly just plain dull.
Rosario Dawson is a terrific actress, and she gives a fine performance in DESCENT , but you have to wonder what she and her fellow producer Tara Lugacy, who also directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Brian Priest, were thinking.
