Neeson's performance in Taken is by far the film's strongest element, precisely....Raimi has a lot of fun with Neeson as emo vigilante-in one scene, Peyton's frustration grows so extreme....smaller sequences of Peyton disguising himself to fuck with his enemies are more satisfying than the big rooftop-and-helicopter chase in the finale..... ... Of course, the film also has woefully misguided acting choices, poorly-timed action sequences, ridiculous dialogue and other bad movie staples.
But the fact that such goofy material is dealt with so seriously creates a unique kind of tension, and it's this tension that makes "Darkman," and so many other bad movies, as enjoyable as it is.

it's interesting to look back at this under rated gem....His hyper-kinetic action sequences were some of the most vibrant of its year....Different from his EVIL DEAD films in tone and genre, DARKMAN tells the story of a brilliant scientist Peyton Westlake (Liam Neeson) who has a beautiful girlfriend in Julie Hastings.... ... Darkman has some interesting elements to it.
By far the worst part of the entire film is Danny Elfman's score.
The rest is marred by poor special effects and a lack of caring on the audience's part.
The first problem is with the script.

Though it has a small cadre of fans who will defend it as genius, Darkman is just a really stupid movie.
The Darkman plot is a blatant mish-mash of familiar stories, and its dialogue groaningly juvenile (the film received an R rating from the MPAA, primarily for foul language).

The first major studio attempt at bringing a comic-book-style hero to the big screen since "Batman," "Darkman" is a nifty end-of-the-summer winner, and may become a real sleeper.
One of Raimi's smartest moves was to cast a terrific actor - Neeson - for his central role.

Then came Sam Raimi's Darkman, before Neeson grew disillusioned with a series of parts in limited films.
Neeson won wide acclaim for the role and followed it with great performances in Rob Roy, Michael Collins and probably the only great performance in Star Wars â€" Episode I: The Phantom Menace, as the Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn.
