I had low expectations as this story has been done many times and Kurt's not exactly getting the best scripts these days. However, Russell is convincing as the maverick cop who is part of an elite unit (SIS) in the city... Full review

Setting this LA cop drama against the backdrop of the days leading up to the Rodney King beating verdict was interesting. Kurt Russell's flawed Eldon Perry portrayal is excellent, it is just unfortuneate every supporting character is a walking cliche. Scott... Full review

Kurt Russell is HOT! Once again he is playing the idealistic good civil servant gone bad, laden with a guilty conscience and a broken marriage and booze to console him. This time instead of a firefighter as in "Backlash" now he... Full review

Basically Dark blue is a nice try, but an overall weak effort. The movie gets bogged down by every single cop cliche. Not only that but it drags on and on. There is no charector development, and the whole story is... Full review

The ending of this film was predictable (and disappointing) after watching the first 10 minutes. Typical worn-out plot. I found none of the scenes to be intense. Kurt Russell does a good job in his role, however.... Full review

I have to say that dispite Kurt Russell and a couple of minor characters, the acting in this movie is lame. Even Ving Rhames' performance was sub par. The storyline flows, but, like so many other films of it's kind, there... Full review

A gritty film about police corruption, Dark Blue is a compelling and powerful drama that sits apart from many in the genre due to its portrayal of very real, albeit flawed characters.
Ron Shelton is the right director for the task and the street scenes are so authentic its frightening.

Harsh, gritty, grizzly, in both crime and badge-wearing corruption with a perfect pace, solid dialogue, strong cinematography and a grippingly repulsive story to tell.
In order to build a pivotal, well-shot, action sequence, the filmmakers opt to drop the respectable believability factor into what seemed like a nose-dive.

Though Speedman had been primarily known for parts in nighttime television up to his role in Dark Blue, he turns in a terrific, understated performance here, particularly in light of the fact that he's working with some intimidating talent.
Much of the film's success rides on its lead performances, as is evidenced by the fact that Russell is so vital.

His attempt to neatly tie up all of the preceding events with a nice shiny ribbon feels completely out of place with the morally ambiguous tone of the rest of Dark Blue.
While the movie is too often unjustly compared to L.A. Confidential, a task only a handful of films each decade could handle, Dark Blue manages to do the impossible.

Well, the film would have been short of a grandstand ending.
In a lesser movie the scene wouldn't be worthy of note, but this picture elsewhere makes a heartening effort to subvert the trite and tested; it's an effort which, for the most part, pays off.
