Dancer in the Dark is one of those films where music and tragedy meet, it is pretty much like an opera. Bjork's captivating voice gives it a sad and melancolic feeling, it blends hope with despair and fatality. It deservedly won... Full review

Honoured with the Palme dOr at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, Dancer in the Dark is an extraordinary and original piece of filmmaking.
But most revealing of all is his response to winning the Palme DOr for Dancer in the Dark: one of complete and utter fear about what to do next.

Shot with a deadpan style, the film is utterly hilarious, as if von Trier had directed an episode of The Office .
Now what's surprising about this movie isn't that it's one of the most original films I've seen this year, and that it's both a critique of society and a critique of cinema at the same time, that's what all of von Trier's movies are about, what's surprising, even down right shocking, is that this movie is a comedy, and a hilarious one at that.
